We prepare the fund's financial statements, member statements and annual return, keep the investment strategy documentation current, and arrange the independent audit that the law requires be done by someone other than us. Once a year we also do the honest review: what the fund costs to run against what it holds, whether the strategy still matches the members' ages, and whether a fund with a small balance is still the right vehicle.

What is included

  • Fund financial statements and member statements
  • SMSF annual return prepared and lodged
  • Investment strategy documentation reviewed and minuted
  • Independent audit arranged with an external auditor
  • An annual meeting on whether the fund still suits you

02How it runs

Four steps, in this order

Typical turnaround: 4 to 8 weeks after 30 June. You are told which step we are on, without having to ask.

  1. 01 Collect the year's transactions and holdings
  2. 02 Prepare statements and the annual return
  3. 03 Send the file to an independent auditor
  4. 04 Meet to review strategy, costs and contributions

03Asked often

Before you ring

If your question is not here, it is probably on the FAQ page, and if it is not there either, ring and ask.

Can you audit our fund as well as prepare it?

No, and neither can anyone else who prepares the accounts. The audit has to be independent, so we arrange it with an external SMSF auditor and pass on their fee at cost.

Our fund balance is fairly small. Is it still worth it?

Often not. Once you add administration, audit, the supervisory levy and any investment costs, a small fund can be paying a percentage that a plain industry fund would not charge. We will run those numbers with you and say so plainly.

Can the fund buy a property on the farm?

Business real property can be held by a fund and leased back at market rates, but the rules on related parties and borrowing are strict. It is worth a conversation before anything is signed.
