Cost

Each quarter we reconcile GST on sales and purchases against the actual bank position, check the coding on the items people most often get wrong (motor vehicles, insurance, government charges, capital purchases) and lodge the statement. Because we lodge as an agent you get the extended agent due dates, which is usually another four weeks of breathing room on the payment.

What is included

  • GST reconciliation against the bank position
  • Review of commonly miscoded items before lodgement
  • PAYG withholding and instalments checked
  • Lodged through our registered BAS agent for extended due dates
  • A short note on what the quarter's figures mean
Three timber sorting trays on a birch table, part sorted, with plain coloured slips in each bay
Coded, reconciled and checked before anything is lodged.
Cost

$180 to $420

per quarter, set by transaction volume and whether we also do your bookkeeping; statements we have to correct before lodging cost more the first quarter

02How it runs

Four steps, in this order

Typical turnaround: 2 to 4 business days per quarter. You are told which step we are on, without having to ask.

  1. 01 Confirm the quarter's books are reconciled
  2. 02 Reconcile GST collected and GST credits
  3. 03 Review coding on the usual problem accounts
  4. 04 Send it to you for approval, then lodge

03Asked often

Before you ring

If your question is not here, it is probably on the FAQ page, and if it is not there either, ring and ask.

Do I get longer to lodge if you do it?

Yes. Lodging through a registered agent gives you the agent concession dates, which for most quarters is around four extra weeks on both the lodgement and the payment.

What if I cannot pay the BAS when it falls due?

Tell us before the due date, not after. Lodging on time and arranging a payment plan is a very different conversation with the ATO than lodging late with a debt attached.

Should I be on cash or accruals for GST?

It depends on how you get paid. Businesses that invoice on thirty-day terms are usually better off on cash so they are not paying GST before the customer has paid them. We check this at the first meeting.
